Description Technical Specs   Galvanized steel has gone through a chemical process to keep it from corroding. The steel gets coated in layers of zinc because rust won't attack this protective metal. For countless outdoor, marine, or industrial applications, galvanized steel is an essential fabrication component. The principal method of making steel resist corrosion is by alloying it with another metal, zinc. When steel is submerged in melted zinc, the chemical reaction permanently bonds the zinc to the steel through galvanizing. Therefore, the zinc isn't exactly a sealer, like paint, because it doesn't just coat the steel; it actually permanently becomes a part of it. The zinc goes through a reaction with the iron molecules within the steel to form galvanized steel. The most external layer is all zinc, but successive layers are a mixture of zinc and iron, with an interior of pure steel. These multiple layers are responsible for the amazing property of the metal to withstand corrosion-inducing circumstances, such as saltwater or moisture. Zinc also protects the steel by acting as a "sacrificial layer." If, for some reason, rust does take hold on the surface of galvanized steel, the zinc will get corroded first. This allows the zinc that is spread over the breach or scratch to prevent rust from reaching the steel. This makes the Galvanized coating technically softer but the Galvanized steel WILL NOT RUST. Keep in mind minor damage can be caused if using metal parts on galvanized steel such as bike pegs or skateboard trucks. While this damage can never make the rail unskateable small imperfections may occur. Standard steel rails once the paint has been removed will rust. Under normal use this will not effect skating. A solid steel surface is more resistant to dents and dings (damage can be caused if using metal on metal such as bike pegs or skateboard trucks on galvanized steel.) Over Priceddd September 5, 2009 Reviewer: Jeff James from LaPorte, IN United States   i made an all metal rail the same height, length, and same pipe... my uncle can weld so he welded it for free. i got 10 foot pieces of galvanized steel piping from menards for like 11.50. the cold rolled plates were the most expensive.. I got them for free because my uncle had some scrap pieces of steel laying arround.. Other wise you can get every thing for under 100 bucks... Was this review helpful to you?

awesome but not that awesome!!! January 5, 2009 Reviewer: D@nnyz from mind gamez!!   there awesome rails for the price but you can also make your own rail.. you can make it longer higher and you can do it all uder $25 dollers!! lol and its super easy!! i made 2 rails in just 1 hour!!! but if you dont have time to do make one and you dont waonna have to keep on buying new stuff every time your rail cracks!! then this is the rail for you the price is awesome and it well last for a long long time sooo im saying this is a good buy!!!
